PreSchool
Program
The Preschool program provides
all of the following:
Social Skills - designed to help
each child develop a strong
sense of
self-esteem
while,
at
the same, learning to work with, listen to and respect
each other.
Language Skills - emphasis on learning
to speak to the group, and on listening to what others
say. As part of their early reading experiences, we use
'phonic', 'look and say' and 'real books' as well as the
'shared
reading experience'. We also use the widely acclaimed,
multi-sensory approach to teaching all the sounds in our
alphabet called 'Jolly Phonics'.
Practical Skills - designed to teach every
day skills such as tying their shoes, pouring liquids,
cleaning up after themselves. We introduce the origins
and customs for all of the common holidays both religious
and cultural to help them understand the diversity that
exists in our country. We also introduce the concept of "giving
to others" who are less fortunate than themselves,
through fundraising events for charity.
Physical
Development - focus is on improving coordination,
control, manipulation skills and movement. We provide indoor
and outdoor equipment and regular activities to develop
necessary physical skills.
Creativity - includes arts and crafts as well as using
percussion instruments, moving to music or spoken language,
drama
allowing time for the children
to become engaged in imaginary play, with or without props.
Math - includes teaching numbers and
basic concepts such as size, shape and color, time and
dates using every day common objects. |
After-School
Program
the after school program combines childcare and enrichment
classes for children in kindergarten to 5th grade.
Number of Days - children
may
attend
1-5 days per week.
Times - hours are 2:30pm to 6:00pm
Monday through Friday
Activities - Staff members meet,
greet and welcome children, help them settle in to their after school routine,
and spend the afternoon with them. During a typical week, children have a regular
schedule of enrichment classes, time to do their homework in the Homework Room,
and on certain days special time to participate in
a variety of age-appropriate activities and games.
Kindergarten - The staff to child ratio is one
to five. Kindergartners remains together throughout the
after school hours. The program includes ample time for
creative play, and enrichment activities such as storytelling,
gymnastics, music,
creative movement, mosaics and cooking. A snack is provided. Weather permitting,
a portion of the play time will be spent outdoors.
Grades 1-5 - time is spent either in enrichment classes
or in the homework room.
Enrichment Classes - include drawing & painting,
metalwork & jewelry, painting & collage,
cartooning, sculpture & pottery, ballet, jazz, tap, modern dance, tennis,
gymnastics, science, kid sports, origami, music technology, track & field,
yoga, crocheting & knitting, miniature broadway, chess, comic book art
and cooking. Parents may schedule private music lessons at the school if space
is available.
Homework Room -
housed in a large, open and quiet environment that encourages
children to work productively with the help of staff as a place to begin their
homework. The Homework Room is available Monday through
Thursday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Children
can use it before or after their scheduled enrichment classes.
Transportation - we provide transportation
from neighborhood schools with bus. If our bus doesn't
go to your child's school, you will
need to make private arrangements for transportation.

Summer
Day Camp
Program
The daily schedule includes a diverse mix of sports, arts,
and much more. Activities include all of the following:
soccer, softball, basketball, sand volleyball, music, martial
arts,
jewelry
making,
fine arts, crafts, ceramics, cooking, videography, cartooning,
tennis, nature and our exciting climbing
tower.
Two days a week are devoted to field trips. One day to
the local Y for both instructional and fun swimming. The
second trip day will explore everything from local museums
to the famous Ice Cream Factory.
The summer will conclude with a day trip to Old Dominion
Amusement Park. |
